Planting survey results
Thank you for completing our planting survey.
We had nearly 1000 responses to this year’s survey, which is more than previous years. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback, which helps inform our segregation plans at sites for the coming harvest and match them to your needs.
We will publish our segregation plans ahead of harvest following further consultation with growers.
We encourage you to get in touch if you did not complete the survey, and wish to provide information on your plantings. Please call your local grower relationship manager, operations coordinator, supervisor or manager, or Viterra on 1800 018 205.
Key findings
The results of our 2023/24 planting survey show:
- Overall plantings of wheat, barley and canola remain largely unchanged.
- Overall plantings of lentils have increased slightly, with a small decrease in other pulses.
- Malt barley varieties are continuing to change. Maximus and Commodus are now the most planted malt varieties, accounting for a combined 57% of plantings.
- GM canola plantings have increased across all regions from 31% in 2022/23 to 39% in 2023/24.
- Lentil plantings have increased for Nipper type lentils, and reduced for Hallmark variety.
