Weekly harvest report

Week ending Sunday 13 December 2020 report

  7 December – 13 December 2020 Total 2020/21 harvest**
Viterra total receivals* 631,730 tonnes 4,986,429 tonnes
Western region receivals 109,518 tonnes 1,672,690 tonnes
Central region receivals 300,019 tonnes 2,155,736 tonnes
Eastern region receivals*** 222,193 tonnes 1,158,003 tonnes

We received 630,000 tonnes of grain into our network last week taking total receivals to 4.98 million tonnes. The majority of activity was from Wednesday onwards.

Viterra Eastern region Operations Manager Jo Klitscher says two records were broken in the region when deliveries picked up.

“Our Bordertown site became the sixth site in our network to break its daily receival record this harvest, when it received 2,702 tonnes on Thursday 10 December,” Jo says.

“The staff at site have been doing a great job receiving strong volumes of faba beans which is what tipped receivals over the line and broke the record.

“We’ve now opened up additional storage with increased elevation capacity to get growers’ faba bean deliveries unloaded more quickly.”

The second record broken in the Eastern region was at our Monarto South site, which has received more grain this harvest than any other year.

“The new record ticked over on Sunday, beating the previous record set during the bumper 2016/17 harvest,” Jo says.

“We invested in new side cell outloaders at Monarto South this year to help improve grain outturns from the silos. These have been very well received by growers and carriers, and our employees, as they make outturns faster and also allow for receivals to continue while outturning.

“Breaking this record has been a fantastic ongoing achievement by employees at site who are focused on safety, quick turnaround times and outturning grain to make room for more deliveries.”

Viterra Western region Operations Manager Nick Pratt says the majority of the 109,000 tonnes delivered into the region were received by sites on the lower Eyre Peninsula.

“The majority of deliveries last week were into our Cummins, Tumby Bay and Port Lincoln sites, as harvesting slows in the north of the region,” Nick says.

“Most growers still harvesting are predicting another week or two of activity, which will be a slightly earlier finish than an average year.”

Viterra Central region Operations Manager Jack Tansley says total receivals for the Central region passed the 2 million tonne mark last week.

“Our busiest sites for the week were Port Giles, Gladstone and Roseworthy. While receivals into our Ardrossan, Wallaroo, Bowmans, Snowtown and Crystal Brook sites have slowed as some areas start to wind down,” Jack says.

“Faba bean deliveries increased significantly into Gladstone and Balaklava as growers moved onto those crops across the region.”
