Viterra total receivals* | 109,511 tonnes | 5,082,142 tonnes |
Western region receivals | 9,964 tonnes | 1,838,257 tonnes |
Central region receivals | 27,165 tonnes | 2,128,406 tonnes |
Eastern region receivals | 72,382 tonnes | 1,115,479 tonnes |
Growers delivered almost 110,000 tonnes to Viterra last week, taking total 2023/24 season deliveries over the 5 million tonne milestone. Deliveries to sites in Viterra’s Eastern region accounted for over 70,000 tonnes of the week’s receivals.
Viterra General Manager Operations, Gavin Cavanagh says grain harvested prior to last weekend’s rain made up a majority of deliveries during the week.
“Growers took the opportunity to deliver any grain they had harvested before the rain and stored on farm to our sites while they were waiting for the crop to dry out so they could begin harvesting again,” Gavin says.
“Growers in areas that received less rain, largely in our Eastern region, managed to start harvesting later in the week and over the weekend with warmer conditions bringing moisture levels down. Dooen, Tailem Bend and Inner Harbour were the busiest sites across our network.”
Gavin says we are working with growers to determine how the recent weather has impacted grain quality.
“Where required, we have provided delivery options for weather affected grain based on growers’ needs and available segregations at our sites,” Gavin says.
“We are encouraging growers to continue to bring in bucket samples or contact their local site to discuss potential weather damage to help us understand any additional requirements.”
Viterra’s busy shipping schedule continued around the weather, with vessels loading at each of our port terminals.
“Throughout the week, we loaded 220,000 tonnes of growers’ grain onto vessels across our ports and continued to move grain from our upcountry sites to port for upcoming vessels,” Gavin says.
Gavin says Viterra is working with growers to determine site opening hours to support those harvesting over the Christmas and New Year period.
“Hours will vary from site to site based on grower consultation and harvest activity. Growers will be able to check upcoming hours on the Viterra app and website closer to the holiday period,” Gavin says.
This will be our last weekly harvest report for 2023. We will share our next report on Wednesday 3 January 2024.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
