Bunge Opens Major Wolseley Site Upgrade Ahead of 2025/26 Harvest, Hosts Preview Event

Adelaide, Australia – 21 October 2025 – Bunge has officially opened its Wolseley site in time for the 2025/26 harvest, following major upgrades as part of a $50 million project aimed at strengthening South Australia and western Victoria’s grain supply chain.

The Wolseley project represents Bunge’s single largest investment in its South Australian upcountry network. The upgrade is designed to improve safety, expand capacity, and create efficiencies and value for farmer and buyer customers, as well as benefit the local community.

On Thursday 9 October, farmers, contractors, government and industry representatives, and Bunge employees gathered at the site to view the upgrades completed as part of stage 1.

Stage 1 will improve the delivery experience for farmers, including additional bunker storage, new classification centres and weighbridges, a larger marshalling area, improved roadways and upgraded stormwater management.

Attendees also viewed progress on Stage 2 of the project, which includes construction of a new rail track around the site and installation of fast rail loading bins. Once complete, the new system will reduce train loading times from eight hours to two, lower truck movements and carbon emissions, and improve community safety through a new active railway crossing.

Bunge Vice President ANZ, Philip Hughes said it was fantastic to have nearly 100 attendees to officially open the site for the 2025/26 harvest and see first-hand Bunge’s long-term commitment to Australian farmers and the grain industry.

“This project is about supporting the future of our grain industry and ensuring farmers have the facilities they need to remain competitive in global markets,” Hughes said.

“We were proud to be able to showcase the work we have done on the project so far, and the feedback from attendees was incredibly positive.”

Farmers utilising the Wolseley site have seen freight rates reduce for two seasons in a row because of the project, equalling savings of $9.30 per tonne.

“We’re pleased to have passed further savings on to farmers for the coming harvest, helping ensure they receive greater value for their grain. Building on last year’s reductions, we’ve delivered a 26% saving over the past two years as a direct result of this work,” Hughes added.

Tatiara District Council Mayor, Liz Goossens, who officially opened the site alongside Hughes, welcomed Bunge’s investment and noted the benefits for the local economy and agricultural community.

“This $50 million project represents a major investment not just in facilities, but also in the farmers, carriers, and communities who rely on them,” Mayor Goossens said.

“The project has already brought significant local benefits through local employment, supplier business, and increased economic activity in the Tatiara region.

“Longer-term, it will continue to strengthen our agricultural base and ensure our farmers remain globally competitive. We’re proud to see Wolseley positioned as a key hub for the upcoming harvest and beyond.”

Local farmer, Simon Ballinger said the improvements at Wolseley will make a noticeable difference this harvest.

“The faster turnaround and better site layout will help many of us when things are at their busiest,” Ballinger said.

“There will also be significant benefit felt from the freight savings, which is a real win for local farmers. It’s great to see a company investing in upgrades that directly benefit us while improving safety and efficiency.

“Everyone at the opening was amazed at the scale of the work that’s been done. It’s very positive for the area and the site and we’re all looking forward to the next stage with the rail and moving more grain to Adelaide by train.”

The upgraded Wolseley site will play a key role in supporting efficient deliveries for the season ahead. The improvements will help ensure a smoother, safer and faster delivery experience.
