EP town welcomes big crowd for Country connect

The small Eyre Peninsula town of Wirrulla was buzzing with excitement on 23 and 24 August as it welcomed a big crowd for the weekend’s Country connect event, a programme run in a partnership by premier agribusiness solutions company Bunge (formerly Viterra) and the Adelaide Football Club.

The event saw Crows greats Kym Koster and Peter Caven, as well as Bunge and Crows team members, visit the Wirrulla Football Club for a packed weekend.

On Saturday, the past Crows players supported the Wirrulla Bombers vs Ceduna Blues match day activities, including assisting with coaching, and took part in an evening Front Bar style Q&A panel.

This was followed by a free junior coaching clinic on Sunday, where 150 children aged five to 15 registered to take part to improve their skills and learn from the Crows.

To support the club in running the weekend long event, Bunge employees assisted by taking on gate, canteen, barbecue and bar shifts, timing netball, scoring and timing football, and assisting the Crows players with running clinic drills.

The Wirrulla Country connect event follows successful weekends in Mundulla and Melrose earlier in the season. It is the last of three 2025 events that saw Bunge team up with the Adelaide Football Club and boost grassroots footy and community wellbeing in rural towns.

Attendees who registered to take part in the junior coaching clinic receive a complimentary junior and adult Country Crow memberships, valued at $108 and including general entry to two Crows AFL home and an additional AFLW home game as part of this programme, among other benefits.

On 2 July, Bunge successfully completed its combination with Viterra. Together, it creates a premier global agribusiness solutions company better able to fulfil its purpose of connecting farmers to consumers to deliver essential food, feed and fuel to the world.

The company remains focused on supporting the communities it operates in through various ways, such as Country connect.
