South Australia’s first shipment of new season barley departs Port Lincoln

Adelaide, Australia – 25 November 2025 – South Australia’s export programme for the 2025/26 season is underway, with the first vessel departing from Bunge’s Port Lincoln terminal carrying 66,000 tonnes of local barley bound for Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

Bunge’s Director of Industrial Management Gavin Cavanagh said the shipment marks the start of a strong export season across the company’s South Australian network.

“This first vessel signals the beginning of a busy shipping programme with more than 6 million tonnes forward booked across our six South Australian ports. We’re seeing strong early buyer demand for new season grain from more than 45 buyers, including 9 exporters this season,” Cavanagh said.

Vessels have already arrived or are scheduled to arrive at Bunge’s Thevenard, Wallaroo, Port Giles and Inner Harbour and Outer Harbor ports this week.

To support farmers during harvest, Bunge introduced high-moisture segregations for barley, enabling earlier deliveries to meet shipping requirements and helping manage variable harvest conditions.

“Offering additional segregations, such as high moisture, is one example of how we adapt to meet farmers’ needs and provide them an opportunity to deliver while still meeting our end use customer’s specifications. We encourage farmers to contact their local site team with any feedback, and we will be working with our farmer customers regarding their harvesting activity to ensure our segregations and opening hours meet their requirements,” Cavanagh adds.

As one of the largest buyers of Australian commodities nationally, Bunge is buying grain direct from farmers across key growing regions this season and shipping from its Western Australian, South Australian and western Victorian network as well as other major port terminals around Australia.
