As Bunge’s sites become busier with grain deliveries, the company is reminding farmers and carriers to prioritise safety to make sure everyone returns home safe each day.
Bunge Director Industrial Management, Gavin Cavanagh thanks its customers for their support in ensuring a safe harvest.
“We understand the pressure that comes with harvest and the need to deliver quickly when conditions are right,” Gavin says.
“Our team and sites are fully prepared to assist, and we appreciate everyone’s efforts to keep safety front of mind so that anyone who attends our sites returns home safe.”
With increased heavy vehicle movements, truck incidents present a major risk and can have serious consequences for drivers, employees and the wider community. Drivers’ continued vigilance and compliance with Bunge’s safety procedures can prevent incidents such as uncontrolled vehicle movements or collisions with grid structures or other infrastructure.
To minimise risk, drivers are reminded to follow directions from Bunge employees, observe site speed limits, apply park brakes before leaving the cabin, lower trailers before moving, and remain alert to vehicles, plant and pedestrians.
Farmers and carriers must also comply with heavy vehicle mass management requirements and chain of responsibility obligations.
Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when attending a Bunge site. Mandatory PPE includes high-visibility clothing and enclosed footwear, hard hats, and protective eyewear, each required in specific locations to minimise risk of injury.
Farmers and carriers are asked to check their safety card is current before delivering grain, to ensure they are up to date with safety information. Inductions can be completed via the Bunge app or safety card website, accessed via viterra.com.au.
Customers should also familiarise themselves with Bunge’s site traffic management plans and other safety rules before attending site.
More information about safety at Bunge’s South Australian and western Victorian sites can be found at viterra.com.au, which remains active for this harvest following the merger of Bunge and Viterra in July.
