Adelaide, Australia – 28 April, 2026 – Volunteers of the Country Fire Service’s (CFS) Spencer Group have been recognised for the important role they play supporting the local farming community, with the group named one of the regional South Australian organisations set to receive a donation from Bunge, a premier agribusiness solutions company connecting farmers to consumers of food, feed and fuel.
Wandearah-based farmer, Michael Crouch, is one of three recipients of Bunge’s postharvest survey donations who each received $3000 to go towards a community group of their choice.
“I nominated our local CFS as it’s a huge part of country life, supporting the community, family and friends to help keep us all safe,” says Michael. “The extra money will assist us do the job we need to do.”
With around 260 local volunteers providing essential fire and rescue services, CFS Spencer Group is headquartered at Crystal Brook and coordinates eight other brigades including Koolunga, Mundoora, Napperby, Port Broughton, Redhill, Wards Hill, Warnertown and Wandearah.
“Our brigades throughout the Spencer Group serve both townships and farming communities, and we responded to over 200 emergency callouts last financial year. The donation from Bunge will help support the work we do on the ground,” says Geoff Smith, CFS Spencer Group Officer. “Given the large farming areas we cover, one idea put forward is to install additional signage to help farmers and crews locate vital water supplies during an emergency."
Other regional organisations nominated to receive a $3000 donation from Bunge include the Coomandook Amalgamated Pastimes Club and the Port Kenny and Districts Sports Centre.
Farmers and carriers were invited to enter the community donation award nominations by completing Bunge’s 2025/26 postharvest survey, providing feedback on the company’s harvest operations to help it understand what went well and areas for improvement.
"After each harvest we spend time reviewing our operations and services to ensure we continue to meet farmers’ needs, and help us plan for future harvests,” says Jack Tansley, Bunge’s Central Region Operations Manager. “Offering a community donation is also a great way for us to further support regional communities and thank customers for their valuable insights.”
With a majority of its employees, customers and suppliers located in regional South Australia, Bunge drives a range of sponsorships and initiatives to contribute to the communities in which it operates, including supporting various farmer groups and events.
