Hear from our people and their pathway in our operations

Demi Elliott

I worked three harvests with Viterra, while travelling Australia for the rest of the year, before becoming a full time operator last year.

My role

Days can vary, which is one of the things I love. I’m typically in the classification office, where we assess grain to determine its quality by running various tests. I welcome and train up new employees who start working at sites in our group.

I’ve also been able to assist with other tasks like and confined space jobs like cleaning inside the silo cells, after obtaining my confined space permit with Viterra.

When I first applied for the operator role, I didn’t have much experience in agriculture, but now I’ve gained a better understanding of the industry which has helped me form better connections within my local community.

My favourite thing about working for Viterra

I love the team here, which is what kept bringing me back each harvest before becoming permanent. I can really see myself building a long-term career in the industry so I was excited to move to a permanent role.

Since taking on my operator role, I’ve learned a lot more about the quality requirements of the products we handle and how our network operates.

I’ve also been given the opportunity to get my Certificate III in Training and Assessing through the business. I’ve been learning a lot and it’s all been really exciting.

I highly recommend operator roles for anyone looking to gain more knowledge and experience in the agriculture industry.
